Sunil Shetty’s debut film was not successful but after this the actor never looked back. Sunil had signed not 10-20 but 40 films before his debut. But do you know what Sunil Shetty used to do before becoming a hero?
Sunil Shetty was a martial artist
Sunil Shetty had told in Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiyaa’s podcast that, ‘I used to do martial arts from the age of 11 or 12. After seeing Bruce Lee, I thought that I have to do martial arts, I have to become Bruce Lee. I was good at it. I was such that if you give me any sport, I will learn it in two days. So while doing martial arts, in just two years, they made me a senior, at the age of 14-15 years. And I used to train the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Maharashtra Police under Sensei Parvez Mistry.’
How did you get the chance to work in films?
Sunil further said that, ‘Once after a long time, Rajiv Rai (director) saw me in a Maharashtra Police demo and Shabbir was my friend. Rajiv said who is this boy, he does good action. It was the era of videos then, films were not doing well. So films were not being made and they wanted mass films. Action was mass so I got that opportunity. Rajiv said I will do the film but that film did not happen because his hero was ill. So he recovered, so I was hired and we will do the film.’ After this, Sunil made his Bollywood debut with ‘Balwan’.
Had signed 40 films before debut
Sunil had a lot of projects before his debut. He said, ‘When the reports of Balwaan and Action came out, I had signed 40 films before the release of the first film. We used to do that many films. We used to shoot 25-30 films in a year. Two days, four days, five days… three films in a day.’
